Details of the Hash CAMRA Event - Updated 11 Oct

The HASH-CAMRA has been touring southern England and is now venturing overseas to the IOW.
There is a ‘Beer and Buses’ event on the island on Saturday and Sunday which is about 50 pubs running their own ‘mini festival’ with guest ales and vintage buses running a series of route between the pubs. We will join with the IOW Hash for a run on Sunday 15 Oct and enjoy the transport between pubs the rest of the weekend


Friday 12th          

Travel to the IOW

1100 - Bash from lower hyde campsite with a lunch stop in Newport

1900 – A Hash run from the Lower Hythe reception to The Crab.

The pub will extend their saver menu for us (usually finishes at 1800) but would like us would like us to have two sittings one at 1915  so walkers straight to the pub.  One at approx 2000 for the runners. 

O/c  there is potentially a pub putting on a band for us and there are a number of watering holes in Shanklin.

Saturday 13th   

1015 - Bus for the Hashers leave from the Shanklin Railway station to Newport from which you can chose fron the different routes to the various pubs participating in the Beer Festival                                

We will have the programmes so you can plan your day on arrival on Friday - Cost £7

Sunday 14th       

1045 (on arrival of Shanklin train) - CAMRA Long Run Departs - this has a brewery stop- hosted by  IOW Hash

1100 - The CAMRA Run hosted by  IOW Hash.

3 runs -  4 miles, 6 miles and a brewery run of 9 miles.  Shorter routes, if required, 2 miles and a train is an option but this will not be a marked trail.

Start point St Johns railway Station,Ryde  finish and Down Downs at Havenstreet railway station.  Beer festival in Havenstreet and get your own lunch.  FOOD IS NOT INCLUDED.

o/c - Steam train back to Smallbrook Station which connects to the main line for return to Ryde or Newport / Shanklin and connection to the buses

 Evening - Sunday social back at the site??

Monday 15th

The programme for the Beer and Buses will be available for a cost of £7.  These give you a discount on the beer at the festivals and is the only way the buses make any money as they are not allowed to charge

Option 1 – Weekend Away

We have booked 23 Chalets and Mobile Homes at Lower Hythe Holiday Park , Shanklin.

Each accommodation is centrally heated with a kitchen, bathroom , lounge , a double bedroom and a twin bed room.  Each accommodation comes with a free ferry crossing for a car and 4 passengers

Each accommodation unit comes with a free ferry crossing on WrightLink (portsmouth-Fishguard) or Lymington-Yarmouth) and the car booking detals are on the Whos Cummin page

Collect accommodation keys from reception - first to arrive collects the keys.  Sort yourself out, chill until 1900 when its time for the evening run


Directions to Site

(From Yarmouth: For Sat Nav use (PO37 7HZ). To find us, take Bridge Road to River Road A3054, continue on A3054 into Newport. Then go along the Medina way and onto Staplers Road. Continue on this and at the roundabout by Robin Hill turn right onto A3056. Follow this road to the roundabout (by Merrie Gardens pub) and turn right into Whitecross Land. Continue onto Sandy Lane and the Park is located on the right hand side past Lidl.

From Fishbourne: For Sat Nav use (PO37 7HZ). To find us, follow Ashlake Copse Road to Fishbourne Lane B3731, follow this road onto Kite Hill then turn into Station Road. Take Briddlesford Road and A3056 to the roundabout at Whitecross Lane in Sandown. Turn right into Whitecross Lane to Sandy Lane in Shanklin and continue along Landguard Manor Road. Carry on along past Lidl on your right hand side and the turning for Lower Hyde Park is on the right. )

Option 2 - Day Trippers

Come to the IOW on the Sunday morning in time for the Hash Run,  participate in Beer and Buses and return to the North Island on the Sunday evening.  St Johns Station is under a mile from Ryde Terminal .

Cost – Depends.  There are historically cheap fares on this weekend (£10 return last year) .  Booking a train plus ferry as a combination is a good deal as well as avoiding her need to drive!

You will be making your own travel arrangements however joining up with others for a 4 people traveling together train fairs or group ferry bookings is recommended
